Give me a call – I would love to take you out for a great day on the water.

Just to remind you too Summer is fast approaching and so is SCALLOP season. It is July 1st thru September 10th this year and we are expecting a super year. The dates go fast, especially the weekends, so reserve your date early.

Great fishing of course! Just want to let you know that our migratory Cobia have already hit the shores here in Homosassa. Cobia pass through our area beginning in Spring into early summer. I was out this week and had a sneaking suspicion they might be coming through our area early due to our warm waters. And….yes they are. First trip out this year and I caught a nice one and it only gets better from here. The Redfish are also back to their summertime patterns. The best time to catch those Reds in on the incoming tides. We are now permitted to keep 2 Redfish per person inside the 18 to 27 inch slot size. We are still enjoying the plentiful Sea Trout and have been catching them throughout the Winter including the month of February. February has traditionally been a closed month for our Trout, but the numbers are up and there are no more closed months. We also had a fun experience this weekend catching Spanish Mackerel. So no matter what your fishing preference is, you can enjoy a fun day on the water this Spring here in Homosassa.

The Cobia will be here throughout May and June, so give me a call and let’s go catch a big one!

Leave the snow and cold weather behind and enjoy Florida fishing at it’s best!

One of my favorite places for Trout is the pole line at the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. So, no matter what you want to fish for there is plenty of action. Give me a call and come enjoy the great fishing and the great weather!

We sure have had some big ones too! I have also limited out on Trout several days this week. The fish, both Reds and Trout are hitting on a variety of baits, both live and artificals, so whatever your preference this is sure the time to go fishing. Come on and give me a call and I would love to take you fishing and….. hook you up!

The water is getting a little cooler and the schools of Redfish are moving in. I fished the points of the outside islands this weekend on a fast incoming tide. Most of the fish we caught were in the slot, (18 to 27 inches) but we did get a 32 inch in the mix and his picture is attached. Redfish aren’t considered fussy eaters and they are easiest to catch with cut bait resting on the bottom. Just putting the rod in the holder, winding out the slack and loosening the drag is the easiest way to a sure catch – use a circle hook and you don’t even need to set the hook. I also tossed the usual, a 1/2 ounce gold spoon, and this was also successful in producing a few Reds. My favorite way is using a free line with a pinfish and tossing it up close to the shore where the mullet are moving. That’s how we caught the Bull Red! Holding that rodtip high and waiting for the anticipated strike will get your heart racing! Whatever method you choose to use, the two keys to success in catching Reds are shallow and quiet. Shallow can be pretty extreme at times and the Reds can get pretty skittish. I love my specially designed flats boat which allows me to get back into the shallow areas and climb the poling platform to look for surface movement or flashes under the water. The boat motor can spook the fish so I like to pole in or use my trolling motor on slow speed. I use a power pole instead of a splashing anchor to keep our presence a secret. Sure looking forward to the cooler weather and a great season of fishing for those Reds. I would love to take you out and put you on some Reds, just give me a call!
